For the 8th year, UCSB Library will exhibit the winners of the annual Art of Science competition organized by UCSB’s Schuller Lab and Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute. This year we are excited to announce a new competition category for "Best Data Visualization."

May, 2022 to June, 2022

Artists, some say, are more right-brained, prone to feeling and imagination. Scientists, meanwhile, are more left-brained, valuing order and logic. Leonardo da Vinci shattered that theory. The left and right sides of our brains co-exist in marvelous, synergistic ways. The pieces exhibited here are the 10 winners from the 8th annual Art of Science competition and 3 special winners from the Art of Quantum at the University of California Santa Barbara. They tell the stories of technical innovation, pure discovery, and inspired creativity that emerge when art and science unfold together.

July, 2019 to December, 2019

This exhibition features the winners of the annual Art of Science competition organized by UCSB’s Schuller Lab and Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute. The UCSB Library is proud to showcase these eye-opening and defining intersections of art and science.

The Library will again exhibit the winners of the annual Art of Science Competition. Organized by the Schuller Lab and the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California Nanosystems, this exhibition allows UCSB researchers to share the beauty of discovery and the story of their science with the campus community.

April, 2015 to August, 2015

Art helps us see the world. Science teaches us to define it. Combine them, and the world is magnified beyond measure. Bones, soil, lipids, polymers, supernovas — they are all represented here in the second annual campus-wide Art of Science competition. And you don’t have to understand any of those things to appreciate their beauty.

The Art of Science competition challenges UCSB researchers — undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs — to express the joy of scientific discovery through aesthetics.
