In science, as in art, the practitioner pursues moments of discovery when observations become greater than the sum of their parts and begin to reveal an untold story. The Art of Science initiative recognizes the creative and experimental nature of science. The pieces exhibited at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art are winners in UCSB’s third annual Art of Science competition. Winners were selected by a panel of judges and by popular vote, and were judged on their aesthetic excellence as well as scientific or technical interest.

In keeping with our commitment to the creativity present in the intersection of art and science, the Museum is delighted to display the 2017 winners, through May 9. 

Special thanks to the SBMA Education Department for displaying these visually exciting art works and to Diego Foronda, MA for guiding and editing the captions as to make them more accessible to our audience.
