Santa Barbara Museum of Art Artist Reception & Exhibition

Event Date:
May, 2022 to June, 2022

Artists, some say, are more right-brained, prone to feeling and imagination. Scientists, meanwhile, are more left-brained, valuing order and logic. Leonardo da Vinci shattered that theory. The left and right sides of our brains co-exist in marvelous, synergistic ways. The pieces exhibited here are the 10 winners from the 8th annual Art of Science competition and 3 special winners from the Art of Quantum at the University of California Santa Barbara. They tell the stories of technical innovation, pure discovery, and inspired creativity that emerge when art and science unfold together.

Winners were selected by a panel of judges and by popular vote, and were judged on their aesthetic excellence as well as scientific or technical interest.

In keeping with our commitment to the creativity present in the intersection of art and science, the Museum is delighted to display the 2022 winners, through June 26th.

The Art of Science competition is organized by UCSB’s Schuller Lab, the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute, the UCSB Library, and College of Creative Studies.  The Art of Quantum is supported by the Eddleman Center for Quantum Innovation at UCSB.
