Description

The model was created using a LiDAR sensor and Matterport camera, transforming real-life spaces into immersive digital twin models. 3D models of familiar campus locations provide a playground for online communities and promote virtual experiences, making it possible for a virtual visit.

3D model of the campus quad, which is located at 34.41207, -119.84425, right adjacent to UCSB Nobel Hall and shares a green area with the Biological Sciences Instructional Facility and Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program Building. Point cloud data consists of 12 GB in size and is post-processed to 98 MB, optimized to run on mobile devices and websites without sacrificing the level of detail that can be seen in the data. The campus 3D model floating on the purple sky space shows how our campus can now exist anywhere. The piece demonstrates how Virtual Continuum begins with our memory and experience.
