Description

Using a dissecting microscope, I have digitally captured a visualization of a fully-bloomed cherry blossom.  Finer details that compose the form of the flower are illuminated, such as the petal texture, or even remnants of pollen that can still be found on the anther tips of the stamens.

The dissecting microscope is special because it allows the examiner to become more intimate with an object, to explore its contours and reveal its secrets. Moreover, the viewer may indulge in their curiosities, likewise increasing their admiration for such objects. Like the aperture of a camera, the lens of the microscope captures a fleeting moment in time and space, providing one with a new pair of eyes to experience their surroundings. It is through such windows that viewers may be immersed into hidden worlds. I chose to edit my image in black and white to encourage the viewer to see the contents of the image in a nondiscriminatory process – nothing detracts the attention of the viewer from seeing the object for what it is in its true form.
