Description

The photo contains the Crab Nebula in the Taurus constellation. This photograph was taken with a ground telescope from Haleakala. The nebula is a remnant from a supernova seen in the mid 1000's by Chinese astronomers, and one of the first recorded supernovae.

The photo contains the Crab Nebula, the Crab Pulsar, and surrounding stars. Telescope images come in black and white, so the image was created by a convolution of several images in different wavelengths. Three filters were used, roughly a red, green, and blue filter. Each filter had several images that were put into a convolution. Then the filter images were colored their respective colors and combined into one color image.
