Description

The image before you is the Nile Grass Rat’s retinal vasculature, seen in its full glory as all of the neurons have been washed away through a procedure known as the trypsin digest. The center of the retina is the blind spot, also known as the optic nerve head. It is here where signals exit the retina and travel to the brain. The darker staining large vessels are arteries, while the lighter ones are veins. Notice how they alternate, where veins are adjacent to arteries, and arteries to veins.
