Description

There are 250,000 neurons in the brain of a fruit fly. Two types of these neurons are visualized with red and green colors. The fluorescent neurons glow like stars and galaxies in our universe. As galaxies are bounded together by gravity, neurons are connected to each other by dendrites and axons.

This image was scanned by confocal microscopy (Zeiss LSM 700). Red and green signals are from two brains and superimposed together. The arborizations are dendrites and axons, with which neurons talk with each other.
