May 17, 2023

After hundreds of community and jury votes for the 2023 Art of Science competition, it is time to find out who the winners are . . .

Wednesday, May 17th @ 3-4pm, Elings Hall First Floor Lobby. All are welcome!

The Schuller Lab, the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships, the College of Creative Studies, and the UCSB Library are excited to announce the tenth annual "Art of Science" competition.

See website for competition guidelines and more details: art-csep.cnsi.ucsb.edu

First, Second, Third, Best Caption, Best Data Visualization, and People's Choice awarded prizes.

In science, as in art, the practitioner pursues moments of discovery when observations become greater than the sum of their parts and begin to reveal an untold story.  Join us in an event to capture the imagination, challenge beliefs and expectations, and share the beauty and meaning of science through illustrative photographs, images, and data stories from your research.

The Art of Science initiative invites current UCSB undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs to tell the story of their research through the aesthetic. Whether it be striking spectroscopic images of a new material, data from a series of simulations, interesting photos of a device or instrument, visual data stories, or some other aspect of research captured visually, we invite you to share it.

Winning pieces go on display at the UCSB Library and other community galleries such as the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the MOXI. We look forward once again to these works of art sharing the creativity and joy of discovery with our community.
