Description

Looking like the vigor of life surges below the sea level, the picture visualizes the structure of magnetic field in a high-resolution simulation, when the shock (moving upward) hits into the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence.

The picture is produced from a high-resolution MHD simulation and then converted into vectorized format. The magnetic field magnitude and field lines (line integral convolution) are presented by the color and the black filaments respectively.

The picture vividly exhibits the detailed interaction between shocks and MHD turbulence, as well as the evolution of magnetic field during this interaction, such as the growth in magnetic field strength, stretching of field lines and the development of magnetic eddies due to coalescence processes.
