A slice of a four-dimensional function with twenty four symmetry elements used to represent the energy of a cubic lattice of rotating molecules.
The image represents a constant angle slice (all 161 degree rotations) within the space of all rigid-body rotations of an eighth order hyperspherical harmonic with cubic symmetry. The function was evaluated on the surface of a hypersphere and displayed on a 2D disc through two volume-preserving projections. The gradients were interpolated with a random 70-color map.
