Description

This is the moonglow anemone, Anthopleura artemisia. When the tide goes out they are buried under the sand, but as the water starts to come in, we see a dazzling 'moonrise' where many anemones emerge out of the sediment and extend their shimmering tentacles out into the water to capture prey.

This image was taken in San Mateo County, CA.
