Description

There is so much to explore and yet, most remains unseen.
This work reveals a glimpse of the hidden nanometer world: The image shows a material blend for solar cells. With our research, we try to reach beyond this surface and explore the unknown- just like a dive into the deep sea.

The image was obtained by photoconductive atomic force microscopy and it represents an are of 5 μ x 5 μ. We study bulk heterojunction solar cells, which are made of two different materials. This technique helps us to reveal donor and acceptor rich domains. The round features correspond to an electron accepting material. The scale of this phase separation matters to us because it is connected with the solar cell's performance.
