Description

In lab we often anthropomorphize our instruments by giving them with a name. You name the instrument because it becomes an important companion in the pursuit of science. Here, these lids look like faces. I'd like to think I just told them about the planned experiment and they are amazed at the idea!

The photo shows parts for microbial three-electrode electrochemical cell. The eyes of the "faces" are two gas inlets/outlets and the mouth is the port for the reference electrode. In the background, the chambers of the cells show a port for the working electrode. All of the parts have o-rings to seal against oxygen intrusion. The planned experiment is to investigate if conjugated polyelectrolyte material added to the electrochemical cell can increase the current collected from the bacteria contained within!
